… how important are essential fatty acids?

All body tissues and organs consist of very specific cells. The skin, as the body’s largest organ, also consists of countless individual cells, just like every hair. Essential, unsaturated fatty acids are part of every cell envelope. If these fatty acids are missing, the tissue is also not intact and the result is skin problems such as dandruff, eczema, brittle hair or loose fur that falls out easily and constantly.

A distinction is made between essential (necessary) and non-essential (can be produced by the body itself) as well as unsaturated (more valuable for the organism) and saturated fatty acids. The essential fatty acids must be supplied to the dog through the food. The addition of a pure oil, such as sunflower, olive, salmon or evening primrose oil is often not useful, because only one of the fatty acid types is contained here and the required ratio of omega-6 and omega-3 fatty acids is not achieved as a result taken into account.
